Health

Students should be able to access the support they need to stay healthy and succeed at university.

We’re working to make sure all health services are designed with students in mind.

The Challenge

Students are a unique population with distinct health needs. For many, university is the first time they have lived away from home and their usual support networks.

At a crucial stage in their lives, access to the right support can make a significant difference to students’ wellbeing and academic success.

While universities provide a range of important support services, some students require more specialised care that extends beyond what their institution can provide.

Additionally, many students also face challenges maintaining continuity of care when moving between home and university, leaving them at risk of falling through the gaps in existing services.

What We Want

We want health services across Greater Manchester to be accessible and responsive to the realities of student life.

This includes ensuring students can access mental health support as quickly as possible and designing services that recognise students as a group with specific needs.

What We’re Doing

We’re working with partners across Greater Manchester to ensure student voices are at the centre of future healthcare policy.

We support the Greater Manchester Mental Health Service as an example of effective collaboration between universities, the NHS and local government, and would like to see the service extended to include ADHD and Autism diagnoses and treatment.

Specifically, we also want to see the introduction of a ‘GP Passport’ scheme so students can access GP services both at home and at university simultaneously.
